Information for Clients
How do I make an initial appointment?
Please phone or email to make an initial appointment. This also gives us about 15 minutes to discuss your needs and work out whether we are the right counselling service for you. There are a range of times and days for appointments on offer.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
We understand first sessions may be daunting. During your first session, your counsellor will conduct an initial assessment to understand your concerns, goals, and background. It is more of a ‘get to know you’ session. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, discuss treatment options, and establish a therapeutic relationship. There is no pressure to talk about anything you are not ready for.
How many appointments will I need?
This depends on your individual circumstances. Some people only need a few sessions to get the help they need. Other people may benefit from attending on a longer term basis for a variety of reasons. This is something that we can chat about at the first session and work out together.
The good thing is, you don’t need to decide this straight away. You can decide at the end of each counselling session whether you want to book another appointment.
Do you provide bulk billing sessions?
We understand that costs can be a barrier to obtaining mental health support. Unfortunately, we do not offer bulk billing, and we suggest you explore bulk-billing service options with your referring doctor.
Is Online Counselling Confidential?
Yes, your privacy and confidentiality are our top priorities. All information shared during therapy sessions is strictly confidential and adheres to professional ethical standards. Exceptions to confidentiality are rare and will be explained to you by your counsellor.
How does online (telehealth) counselling work?
Telehealth provides online counselling sessions through video calls on a laptop or computer. This service allows you to access support from the comfort of your space, no matter where you are. It also removes travel time and allows additional privacy.
Telehealth offers the same level of care as face-to-face sessions, with the added benefit of flexibility. If you haven’t had much experience with video calls or meetings, it can feel a little strange at first.
Two days prior to your appointment, you will receive an email with the link to your private zoom meeting. At the time of appointment, click on the link and it will forward you to a zoom waiting room.
If you have any concerns about this process (especially if it’s new to you), please reach out to us.
What equipment do I need for a telehealth counselling appointment?
A laptop or desktop computer is ideal (tablets and phones can be used though may make it more difficult to engage through). Prior to your appointment, please check your video, microphone and speakers are working. You will also require a stable and reliable internet connection.
We suggest taking 5-10 minutes prior to your appointment to set up a comfortable, quiet and private space where you won’t be interrupted. Things to consider: a comfortable chair, something to drink, pen and paper, and tissues.
Clients participating in online sessions are to ensure that they locate themselves somewhere private and comfortable for session times, free of interruption.
Do you have a Telehealth Service Policy?
Yes. This will be forwarded to you when you make an online or phone appointment. Please read over it and contact us if you have any further questions. Prior to your appointment a copy of How to Use Zoom and Telehealth Requirements will also be forwarded by email.
Where would I find the Regen Counselling full Privacy Policy?
Please contact us through any of the details in the contact us page, and it will be provided.
